Treasurer│Bamboo Bend
I met Victor Edwards, the originator of the Bamboo Bend Project, when he came home from war and retired from the Army. We fished and hunted together for about 30 years, and still do. When Victor started fund raising for the Project, I became involved as a volunteer. After five years he asked me to take the class, they needed to see if the instructors could handle eight novices building a bamboo fly rod, up from the six veterans that had previously filled the annual event. I had been handling some of the back office stuff, but now I had first hand experience with how the Project changes lives. I am the Treasurer on the Board, keeping the books, fund raising, begging for dollars, filing annual reports, getting our insurance, writing the checks, depositing the donations. I pay for my own expenses, as do all the volunteers, we have no paid staff. I was a full time contractor for the New Mexico Dept of Game & Fish taking kids fishing. After 30 years, and 50,000 kids, I quit and took up wood working. Fishing is important to me, but so are a lot of other activities, like suicide prevention in our military veterans. My dad is a 93 year old WWII veteran, the 493rd Bomber Group, Eighth Air Force. I am not a veteran. I do serve those that have served.
